Description
pH is a measure of how acidic or basic the solution is at the time of reading. The range goes from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. The pH of a nutrient solution influences the availability of nutrients, so it should be maintained in the optimum range. The pH of nutrient water kept in your hydroponic reservoir gradually increases over time due to various factors. As and when plants grow, their roots increase the pH however the suitable pH range for most plants is 5.5-6.5. The lesser pH (upto 4) is less terrifying but a higher (basic) pH is a matter of concern. A sudden rise in pH level leads to the precipitation of nutrients from the hydroponic solution and hampers nutrient uptake by roots. Especially calcium starts precipitating out at pH above 6.5 and micronutrients (mainly Iron) are not absorbed by the roots. Many times a slightly acidic pH is required to grow the most vigorous plants. You can easily reduce the pH of any growing media with the help of our pH Down. Area of Application-
pH down has significant use in commercial hydroponics farms, traditional farms, home gardens, and NFT/DFT setups. Especially in closed hydroponics systems pH down is a must as the roots readily affect the hydroponic solutions pH and thus it tends to fluctuate.
Although Soil has a natural buffer that maintains the pH range but nowadays it is seen that the pH of the soil is severely changing due to the overuse of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and thus high pH level has to be reduced in order to grow healthy nutrient-dense plants. pH down is used to lower the pH of potting mixes as well.
How to use pH Down?
- If the pH of your solution is higher than the desired range then add a few drops of pH down (4-5 drops maximum). Stir it well and leave it for 30 minutes.
- Check the pH of the solution, if it is still higher then repeat the above process until you get the desired pH.
* If the readings of the solution are lower than the desired range then you can add regular water to increase the pH.
Best Suited For-
With Nutrients, pH Down should also be used to maintain the required pH of any media, nutrient solution, or potting mix. Thus it is best for almost every plant like lettuce, pok choi, kale, basil, brinjal, chilly, capsicum, bell pepper, strawberry, gourd family, carrot, etc.
